Tokini Peterside

Founder & Director
Ikoyi, Lagos
Tokini Peterside is the Founder and Director of ART X Lagos, West Africa’s first international contemporary art fair, which debuted in 2016. She created ART X Lagos to widen Nigeria’s connection to the contemporary art scene in Africa and internationally, to contribute to the increased visibility of contemporary artists from Africa, and to position Lagos as an emergent cultural capital on the continent. The second edition of ART X Lagos held in November 2017 and attracted 9,000 local and international visitors to see the works of over 65 artists drawn from 15 countries across Africa and the Diaspora.
Tokini is also the Director of TP-Collective, a strategy consultancy, which since its founding in 2012 has developed businesses and projects in the culture and luxury sector, such as ALARA (the David Adjaye-designed luxury concept store), Maki Oh (an artisanal fashion label worn by Michelle Obama and Solange Knowles), and ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ (the film based on Chimamanda Adichie’s novel, starring Thandie Newton and Chiwetel Ejiofor).
Prior to founding TP-Collective, Tokini was the Head of Marketing at Moët Hennessy (part of the LVMH Group) in Nigeria, where she helped the group establish dominant positions for its stable of nine luxury brands and led pioneering initiatives in the luxury sector in Nigeria.
She holds an MBA from INSEAD and a law degree with first class honours from the London School of Economics. She lives and works in Lagos.
