Can technology intersect civic engagement and institutional reform to enhance service delivery? Like every other country, Nigerian government and agencies have public data and information that can help citizens make informed decisions. Today's citizens should know how government revenues are expended in the delivery of public infrastructure and funding of the budget.


Technology is a broad sphere, which is key to good governance. It is imperative that  citizens exploit innovation to establish transparent and accountable systems in our society. Budeshi and Tracka are digital tools designed to enhance transparency and accountable government in Nigeria.


This panel session will highlight how Budeshi.ng and Tracka have been used in enhanced implementation, tracking and red flagging of contractors and projects in over 20 states and 1,200 projects.


About Budeshi.ng Budeshi “open it” in the Hausa language) is an initiative of Public and Private Development Centre that aims to make government contracting information more transparent. It is doing this by linking budget and procurement data to the provision of public services and structuring the data, using the Open Contracting Data Standard, so that it can be visualized, searched, compared, and used. Budeshi’s work responds to the need for open, coherent, and usable data to enable better tracking and monitoring of public finance projects. 


About Tracka.ng Tracka was established by BudgIT to address critical issues surrounding social and economic development in Nigeria, precisely the lack of citizens inclusion in developmental projects, an ever-increasing number of abandoned projects and poor execution of the few projects implemented. Over the years, Nigerians in rural communities have little or no ideas about government projects in their communities, Tracka then enables citizens to collaborate, track and give feedback on public projects in their community. Tracka uses both online and offline engagement channels to keep residents informed about government projects.
