Many young people, especially women and girls lack adequate information and access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and rights services. In Nigeria, little priority is placed on providing SRH services for young people  even though global policies and studies have shown the dire consequences of a lack of access to these services. The societal stigma attached to victims of sexual violence and assault as well as young unmarried girls and women seeking information and accessing contraceptives also proves a major barrier to access. Many young people also do not know where to get help and information regarding SRH and rights.


Leveraging Technology For Young People's Sexual And Reproductive Health And Rights is a panel discussion aimed at exploring the challenges young people face in accessing information on safe sex, contraception, menstrual hygiene and puberty as well as reporting sexual violence. It will also feature a discussion on HACEY solutions: the SALVUS and TOMBEY platforms which makes use of mobile technology to improve access to services and information on SRH and sexual violence.


Salvus, meaning "Safe" is an online platform that enables survivors and witnesses of sexual violence report incidents anonymously and securely, and access help from registered support service providers. The TOMBEY platform helps young people locate youth-friendly SRH centres near them, identify services available at these centres, and provide the opportunity for them to access needed services.




The panel session will focus on:
1. Identifying challenges young people face in accessing SRH
2. Current SRH policies and policy gaps
3. Youth mainstreaming in policies addressing SRH for young people
4. Gathering and using Data for SRH planning and policy
5. Helping young people tell their stories and share experiences on accessing SRH services.
